Leroy Taylor's Obituary
Mr. LeRoy Taylor was born on Tuesday, January 4, 1938, in Houston, Texas, to the proud parents of Leo Taylor and Portia T. Taylor. Though LeRoy was the youngest son among his three brothers, he often carried himself like the elder brother, helping guide and influence decisions among his siblings.
LeRoy was known as a quiet man with a tremendously big heart for his family and those closest to him. He carried himself with a calm and gentle demeanor. While he rarely raised his voice, his family always knew when he was not pleased. His quiet strength and steady presence spoke louder than words.
At an early age, LeRoy accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. He remained steadfast in his faith and was a faithful and dedicated member along with his wife for over 30 years, of Word of Life Christian Center in Lone Tree, Colorado, serving under the leadership of Pastor, Dr. Mark T. Bagwell.
LeRoy received his education at Booker T. Washington High School in Conroe, Texas, where he graduated before answering the call to serve his country. Shortly after high school, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving honorably and he received his honorable discharge credentials.
In the early 1960s, LeRoy relocated to Colorado, where he would build his life and legacy. It was there that he met and married the love of his life, the Former Willa Juniel. The two were united in holy matrimony on Friday, June 10, 1966 at Shorter Community AME Church, in Denver, Colorado. Their union was one filled with love and devotion. Leroy and Willa were inseparable. When you saw LeRoy, you saw his wife Willa by his side. When his beloved wife, Willa, transitioned to be with the Lord, LeRoy deeply felt the void of her absence left in his heart. Yet, through the strength of the Lord, he continued to press forward, finding comfort in the love of family who surrounded him. He especially cherished the care shown by his Sister In Love, Mother Sharon Juniel-Davis and his nephew James Walker, who often prepared meals for him, especially during the holidays. Leroy would always come to pick up a plate of food and drinks to take home and enjoy. He had his own special folded plastic bag in his pocket to put his food and drinks in. In addition, LeRoy would often have great telephone conversations with his sister Ms. Gloria Taylor and His Brother In Love, Chester Juniel.
LeRoy worked faithfully for many years and eventually retired from TWA Airlines as a Ramp |Agent, now known as American Airlines. He was known for his discipline and responsibility—often saying he did not believe in bills, meaning that everything was paid before time.
Family was always important to LeRoy. As a young man, he often babysat and cooked for his siblings while his mother worked. As his sisters grew older, he gladly passed the cooking responsibilities on to his sisters. Over the years up to his passing, he especially enjoyed exchanging recipes with his youngest sister, Ms. Gloria Taylor, who resides in Sierra Vista, Arizona. Ms. Gloria is going to truly miss her brother LeRoy dearly.
One of LeRoy’s favorite hobbies was working on computers. He enjoyed learning about technology and could often be found repairing or exploring something new on a computer.
Growing up, LeRoy also took his responsibility as the protector of his sisters seriously. When they attended dances, he was always the chaperone. When it was time to go home, LeRoy would firmly let them know it was time to leave. And if they didn’t pay attention, all it took was “the look of his stern eyes,” and they knew it was time to go.
LeRoy was preceded in death by: his beloved wife, Willa Taylor; his parents, Leo and Portia Taylor; his sisters, Loretta Taylor and Patricia A. Taylor; his brothers, Henry L. Taylor and John Taylor; his niece, Sandra R. Clements; his nephew, Jared N. Haynes III; and his great-niece, Jeri D. Haynes.
LeRoy leaves to cherish his precious memories: his loving and devoted sister, Ms. Gloria Taylor of Sierra Vista, Arizona; his brother, Herbert Taylor; his sister-in-law, Mother Sharon Juniel-Davis; his brother-in-law, Chester Juniel; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and his beloved church family, Word of Life Christian Center.
LeRoy loved his wife deeply, and his family finds comfort in knowing that he is now reunited with the love of his life in Heaven
