Gary Lee Jones' Obituary
In Loving Memory of Gary Lee Jones (“G-Lee”)
July 16, 1972 – March 17, 2026
“Grateful for life, devoted to family, and always the life of the party.”
Gary Lee Jones, lovingly known as “G-Lee,” went home to be with God on March 17, 2026, at the age of 53. Born on July 16, 1972, in Oklahoma to Marjorie Hutzel Jones and Clifford Jones, Gary later made his home in Aurora, Colorado, where he built a life centered around family, laughter, and love.
Gary was born with a rare spinal condition called spina bifida. Doctors once believed he would be wheelchair bound and unable to live an active life. Gary proved them wrong time and time again. He refused to let limitations define him, choosing instead to live with strength, determination, and heart. He played sports, stayed active, and inspired others through his perseverance and resilience.
Wrestling became one of Gary’s early passions. He wrestled at Mrachek Middle School and later at Gateway High School, competing on both the junior varsity and varsity teams. Gary was a member of the Continental League Championship teams at 98 lbs and 103 lbs weight class. Coached by Bob Nelson, George Coaker, and Bob Legg, he served as team captain his senior year. Gary was known for his strong upper body strength and the big heart he carried both on and off the mat.
Gary was an entrepreneur who owned and operated his own maintenance company before retiring. More than any title or accomplishment, he will be remembered for the way he made people feel. He was a funny jokester, compassionate, caring, and truly the life of the party. Wherever Gary went, laughter followed. He loved music, dancing, celebrating life, and bringing people together.
Family meant everything to Gary. He loved cooking and hosting family barbecues, creating moments filled with food, laughter, and connection. Some of his children’s favorite memories were nights at the drive-in movies, where Gary would throw a football around before the movie began. When the drive-in was closed, he turned home into a theater with snacks and movie nights together. He loved sharing stories from his life, laughing about old memories, and spending meaningful time with those he loved.
Gary started each morning with prayer, thanking God for another day and praying over his family. He lived generously and believed in helping others. If he had it, you had it, whether it was his time, encouragement, or the last few dollars in his pocket.
He was a devoted sports fan who proudly cheered for the Oklahoma Sooners, often leading family chants of “Boomer Sooner,” the Dallas Cowboys, and Oklahoma City basketball. Watching games together was never just about sports, it was about togetherness.
Gary is survived by his father, Clifford Jones, and by his children and their families:
